INDIAN WELLS, CA – – The University of Iowa men’s tennis team improved to 7-4 on the season after posting a 5-2 win over Wichita State Friday. The Hawkeyes are now 1-1 in their Spring Break trip to California.
Garret Dunn and Reinoud Haal, playing in the number three doubles spot, took down Jon Obrist and David Cavalcanti, 8-5.
Marc Bruche, playing in the number one singles spot, posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Sven Kasper. Nikita Zotov recorded a narrow 7-5 win in the first set over Vlad Marinescu before finishing the match with a 6-3 win in the second set to seal the Iowa victory. Haal defeated Valentin Mihai, 6-4, 6-4, while Will Vasos took down Adrian Chermaci, 6-4, 6-2. Austen Kauss prevailed in three sets over Obrist, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
“I thought we played really well today,” Head Coach Steve Houghton said. “It was a great win for us.”
The Hawkeyes will hit the courts tomorrow at 1 p.m. (CT) to face Pacific University in the final match of the week.
