INDIAN WELLS, CA – – The University of Iowa men’s tennis team posted a 4-3 win over Pacific University Saturday in the team’s final match during the Spring Break week. The Hawkeyes improve to 8-4 on the season with the win over reigning Big West champions.
Will Vasos and Tommy McGeorge teamed up to take down Vegerd Veskimagi and Chase Oliphant, 9-7, while Reinoud Haal and Garret Dunn posted a 9-8 win over Renan Delsin and Fernando Ristow.
Vasos was successful in singles play as well, defeating Ristow, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2. McGeorge played in the fifth spot, taking down Veskimagi, 6-1, 7-5. Austen Kauss dominated Oliphant. Kauss blanked his opponent, 6-0, 6-0.
“This is a great win for us seeing as Pacific is the defending Big West Conference Champion,” Head Coach Steve Houghton said. “I also thought Austen Kauss played absolutely flawless tennis today.”
The Hawkeyes travel to Michigan next weekend to face the Michigan State Spartans Saturday and the Michigan Wolverines Sunday. The matches are both scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
