Kickoff!

April 13, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The nationally ranked University of Iowa football team will make its debut appearance for 2010 Saturday, April 17, at the annual Iowa Football Coca-Cola Classic Spring Practice. The defending FedEx Orange Bowl champions will begin their team practice at approximately 1 p.m.

The west grandstand and south grandstand will be open for spectators. Gates A, B, and E will open at 11:30 a.m. There is no admission charge, but fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items for donation to the Johnson County Crisis Center.

The Official Iowa Hawk Shop will also stage its annual clearance sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday inside the southeast concourse. Fans interested in that activity will enter at Gate M. The Hawk Shop sale will move into the east concourse in the event of rain.

Parking will be available in all University parking lots adjacent to Kinnick Stadium. Fans with recreational vehicles will be able to park Friday after 7 p.m. Please note: Normal daily parking rates will be in effect in the two parking ramps adjacent to the UI Hospitals and Clinics.

Fans are reminded that Iowa City ordinance prohibits the consumption of any alcoholic beverage on UI and public property. As in the past, this ordinance is in effect on the day of the annual spring football practice.

“As is typical in the spring, we have a lot of work in front of us. Hopefully, we’ll make good use of our last three practice opportunities,” said Kirk Ferentz, who is entering his 12th season as head coach of the Hawkeyes.

“Obviously, we invite fans of the Hawkeyes to join us at Kinnick on Saturday. Hopefully, the weather will continue to be outstanding, they’ll get a nice look at the 2010 squad, and we’ll provide a nice boost to the efforts of the Johnson County Crisis Center.”

The practice is expected to last about two hours and will include a “controlled scrimmage” near its conclusion. The Hawkeyes may play as much as two quarters of simulated game action; injuries and depth will affect that decision.

A post-event autograph session will be staged for 30 minutes after the conclusion of the practice. Team members will line up along the south and west grandstands. Fans are encouraged to limit their autograph requests to two items.

Fans of the Iowa Hawkeyes who were general public or UI faculty/staff season ticket holders a year ago are reminded that the priority deadline to order their 2010 season tickets is Friday, April 30.

Fans of the Hawkeyes who did not purchase general public and/or UI faculty/staff season tickets a year ago but are interested in purchasing season tickets for the 2010 season are reminded that the UI Athletics Ticket Office is currently accepting orders from new season ticket holders and that the supply of season tickets available for purchase is limited.
