MINNEAPOLIS, MN – The University of Iowa women’s soccer team finished its spring season in Minnesota last weekend. The Hawkeyes faced Iowa State and Kansas in the Big Ten/Big 12 soccer challenge hosted by the University of Minnesota. Iowa finished the weekend 1-0-1, improving the 5-1-1 overall this spring.
The Hawkeyes took down in state rivals, Iowa State, 1-0. Junior Keli McLaughlin found the net off a pass from freshman Stefani Campbell and sophomore Rachel Blakesley.
Iowa finished the tournament with a game against Kansas. The Hawkeyes rallied back from a one goal deficit to score on a great cross from sophomore Morgan Showalter. The Jayhawks were caught up around the net and deflected the ball into their own goal.
Three Hawkeyes were named to the all-tournament team. Emily Moran was named the goalkeeper, while McLaughlin and Showalter were named an all-tournament forward and midfielder.
Head Coach Ron Rainey and the Iowa Hawkeyes will be back on the field at the Iowa Soccer Complex this fall for the regular season.
