IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Iowa basketball practice facility is no longer just a vision or a giant part missing from the side of a hill.
“There is concrete coming out of the ground,” said Jane Meyer, University of Iowa senior associate director of athletics. “We are on schedule. We have many of the walls built.”<>
“We have one more significant pour on the walls of the practice facility. We have the floor poured of the third floor office area. So they’re just slowly moving out of the ground.”
“What people are goig to see right now, obviously, the crane is still in place and it’s in the middle of the practice facility because it’s needed to move structure,” Meyer said. “We need to now get some more walls poured.
“So what’ you’re going to see is a lot of concrete right now. There is a concrete structure and a lot of structural support that is still in place until we can actually connect the two buildings together. We’ll probably be into the summer until we start seeing some of that. But they are building right up next to the existing structure.”

Meyer is reminded of that when she looks out her office window at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
“I have a ledge outside of my window that’s probably 20 or 25-feet away and there are guys out there working,” Meyer said. “It’s just that people won’t be able to see that because it’s within the confines of the construction site.<>

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS: Carver-Hawkeye Arena Re-Seating
The University of Iowa’s award-winning Carver-Hawkeye Arena is undergoing a multi-million dollar facelift that will result in a variety of enhancements to the home of the UI’s men’s and women’s basketball, wrestling and volleyball teams. As part of the project, all season ticket holders will be assigned new seat locations based on the UI priority point system. The project and process is similar to that which was undertaken not so long ago when the UI’s historic Kinnick Stadium was renovated and all seat assignments were re-assigned. Here is a list of some common questions and the answers to those questions.
What is the Carver-Hawkeye Arena priority seating program?
The priority point system quantifies every I-Club member’s and season ticket holder’s relationship with UI athletics by considering a number of different criteria including cumulative giving to athletics, years of season ticket purchases, current level within I-Club and alumni/letter winner status. The UI priority points program was used in 2006 when Kinnick Stadium was reseated and helps generate important annual support, while ensuring a fair process for determining season ticket selection.
Donors to the Carver-Hawkeye Arena campaign at $5,000 and above will be provided the following amenities for women’s basketball/wrestling.
Pre-game/meet access to the concourse level club room including
-food and beverage service (cash basis)
Priority parking
Additionally, these courtesies will be extended to National I-Club members at a level to be determined.
How do my contributions to UI athletics factor into seat locations, event parking and other considerations?
In any year in which you contribute to the I-Club, your priority points help to determine your priority for choosing Kinnick Stadium and/or Carver-Hawkeye Arena season ticket locations, bowl game tickets, and other athletics considerations. Cumulative athletic giving is one factor in establishing priority points.
How will I select my men’s basketball seats prior to the 2011-12 season?
In January 2011, the Iowa Athletic Ticket Office will provide each current season ticket holder a seat selection time based on your priority points. The selection process will begin in February 2011, at which time the customer will have the opportunity to select seats by phone or in person or to allow the ticket office to select his or her seats (similar to process in reseating Kinnick Stadium). The customer will need to make the appropriate minimum annual per-seat gift (if higher than football) by June 30, 2011.
How will I select my women’s basketball seats prior to the 2011-12 season?
In January 2011, the Iowa Athletic Ticket Office will provide each current season ticket holder a seat selection time based on your priority points. The selection process will begin in late March 2011, at which time the customer will have the opportunity to select seats by phone or in person or to allow the ticket office to select his or her seats (similar to process in reseating Kinnick Stadium). No “per-seat” donation is required.
How will I select my wrestling seats prior to the 2011-12 season?
In January 2011, the Iowa Athletic Ticket Office will provide each current season ticket holder a seat selection time based on your priority points. The selection process will begin in April 2011, at which time the customer will have the opportunity to select seats by phone or in person or to allow the ticket office to select his or her seats (similar to process in reseating Kinnick Stadium). No “per-seat” donation is required.
If I already make a per-seat donation for season football tickets, do I need to make an additional gift for men’s basketball season tickets?
Individuals who have season tickets in Kinnick Stadium and Carver-Hawkeye Arena zones that require per-seat contributions will be required to pay whichever is higher.
Example A
If you have 4 seats in Zone I ($600/seat required) for football and 2 seats in Zone I ($600/seat required) for men’s basketball, a total minimum annual gift of $2,400 is required.
Example B
If you have 4 seats in Zone III ($200/seat required) for football and 2 seats in Zone I ($600/seat required) for men’s basketball, a total minimum annual gift of $1,200 is required.
I am not a current men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and/or wrestling season ticket holder but I do make annual I-Club gifts. Will I receive a priority points mailing?
The Athletic Ticket Office will mail detailed priority points information only to 2010-11 season ticket holders. I-Club contributors who are not current season ticket holders but who are interested in ordering 2011 season tickets should contact the UI Athletic Ticket Office at (319) 335-9327 or (800) IAHAWKS or by email at prioritypoints@hawkeyesports.com prior to 10/15/2010.
Does contributing the minimum per-seat amount for a particular section guarantee seats in that section?
Every effort will be made to accommodate you within the area corresponding to your annual contribution commitment. However, if demand exceeds supply, you will need to select seats in a different zone.
I have McCord indoor club or outdoor club seats at Kinnick Stadium, but no seats in the main stands. Will my premium seating gift at Kinnick Stadium count toward per-seat requirements for my men’s basketball season tickets?
Yes. You will only need to make an additional gift if the seats you select in Carver-Hawkeye Arena require a higher commitment.
How can a group select their tickets together in the same zone?
All current season ticket holders will receive a seat selection date based on their customer priority. Individuals wanting to sit together as a group will be able to select tickets together based on the lowest customer priority of the individual in the group.
How many tickets will I be allowed to order for the 2011 seating reallocation?
The Athletic Department has determined that individuals will be allowed to re-order the same number of tickets held for the 2010-11 season. Increased orders will be reviewed at the discretion of the Athletic Department. New patrons will be allowed to order a maximum of 4 at selection time, and more if tickets are available after the reseating process is complete.
Will a per-seat donation be required for women’s basketball and wrestling season tickets in Zones 1-3?
No. Only men’s basketball season tickets require per-seat donations.
How does the Carver-Hawkeye Arena priority seating plan affect faculty/staff ticket season ticket holders?
Most current faculty/staff season ticket holders for men’s basketball will receive comparable locations in the 2011-12 seating reallocation plan with no minimum gift requirement. This may not always be possible to due to the reconfiguration of the area, with regards to premium and handicapped seating areas. New faculty/staff ticket holders and those upgrading their men’s basketball season ticket location will have the opportunity to do so based on their priority and a discounted rate of 50% of the general public per-seat minimum gift requirements.
Why are so many sections held for UI students?
The University of Iowa is required to reserve 4,000 tickets for students on an annual basis. Tickets not sold to students will be made available to the general public on a year by year basis.
