May 5, 2010

IOWA CITY, IA – University of Iowa sophomore Betsy Flood was named Big Ten Women’s Track co-Athlete of the Week for her personal record-breaking performance at last week’s 11th annual Musco Twilight Meet. Flood, a native of Des Moines, IA, captured first-place in the 3,000-meters with a collegiate-best time of 9:22.63, the third-fastest time in program history. She shared the weekly award with Illinois’ Angela Bizzarri.

“This is a tremendous honor for a well-deserving student-athlete,” said Head Coach Layne Anderson. “Betsy continues to exemplify what it means to be a Hawkeye on and off the track. She is an outstanding role model and we’re extremely proud of her accomplishments.”

This week’s honor marks the second time in Flood’s career she has received weekly conference laurels. She was named Big Ten Cross Country Runner of the Week September 8, 2009.

The Hawkeyes return to action at the Big Ten Championships May 14-16 in Bloomington, IN.
