IOWA CITY, Iowa — Three preseason football rankings, three top 10 predictions.
The closer the University of Iowa gets to its Sept. 4 opener against Eastern Illinois in Kinnick Stadium, the more lofty its 2010 predictions are likely to be.
So far this spring, Sports Illustrated and about.com have the Hawkeyes in the No. 5 position; nationalchamps.net has Iowa ranked eighth.
Iowa returns eight starters on defense and six on offense along with punter Ryan Donahue and kickers Daniel Murray and Trent Mossbrucker. The Hawkeyes were 11-2 last season and defeated Georgia tech 24-14 in the FedEx Orange Bowl.
UI head coach Kirk Ferentz says there is no time for him or his staff to look backward. The Sporting News is one publication that omitted the Hawkeyes from the top 10, but it did feature a question-and-answer with Ferentz on Thursday. To read the entire Q&A, click HERE.
