IOWA CITY, IA – Several current and future University of Iowa swimmers have qualified to compete in national swimming competitions this summer. Ten Hawkeye student-athletes will compete at the 2010 Conoco Phillips National Championships & USA Swimming National Team Trials August 3-7 in Irvine, CA, while another quartet of Iowa swimmers will dive into foreign waters to compete in their respective country’s national championships.

USA National Qualifiers include Daniela Cubelic, Byron Butler, Max Dittmer, Paul Gordon, Sean Hagan, Jordan Huff, Zane Hugo, Duncan Partridge, Ryan Phelan and Danny Warren.

Other Hawkeyes qualified to compete in their respective country’s national championships include Danielle Carty (Canada), Verity Hicks (New Zealand), Katarina Tour (Sweden) and Richard Salhus (South Africa).

Several other Hawkeyes may be joining their teammates as they reach qualifying marks throughout the summer. In addition to Iowa’s stable of current student-athletes, a total of 13 Hawkeye recruits have qualified to compete for the National or Junior National Championships.

“We’re planning on having a tremendous presence at this summer’s National Championships,” said Head Coach Marc Long. “It’s important for our program that we continue to focus at an elite level. We expect all of our current and incoming athletes to train and compete for conference, NCAA, national, and international titles.”
