IOWA CITY, IA – The University of Iowa swimming and diving team has signed Taylor Newgaard to a National Letter of Intent, Head Coach Marc Long announced Friday. Newgaard, a native of Phoenix, AZ, is the 10th student-athlete signed to Long’s 2010-11 recruiting class.

Incoming freshmen Katelyn Baltes (Madison, WI), Elise Borja (Waukesha, WI), Emily Christiansen (Mesa, AZ), Lauren Drennan (Danville, IL), Haley Gordon (Sioux Falls, SD), Emily Hovren (Normal, IL), Lauren Kelba (Calgary, Alberta, Canada), Abbey Tuchscherer (Oshkosh, WI) and Karolina Wartolowicz (Oswego, IL) all signed their National Letter of Intent to join the Iowa program last fall.

“We’re excited to have Taylor join our very talented group of incoming swimmers & divers,” said Head Coach Marc Long. “She comes from a tremendous club background and is poised to excel both academically and athletically at Iowa.”

Newgaard will join a women’s team that was named to the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) all-academic team for the fifth-straight year. The incoming student-athletes are set to enroll for the fall semester and join the Hawkeyes for the 2010-11 campaign.
