June 29, 2010

COLUMBUS, GA – University of Iowa senior Vince India is the most recent Hawkeye golfer finding success on the amateur tour this offseason. The Deerfield, IL, native tied for eighth at the 81st Southeast Amateur after firing a four-round total of 278 (-6). His three rounds shot at or under par (71), included an opening round of 68 and a final round of 66.

Competition was held at the Country Club of Columbus where players found a pristine Donald Ross layout which opened in 1909 and was most recently renovated in 2003. The 6,391-yard layout features its signature postage stamp green on hole four.

India, along with his fellow Hawkeyes, is remaining active in amateur tours in preparation for the 2010-11 season. India’s impressive performance can be added to junior Barrett Kelpin’s tie for sixth at the Monroe Invitational June 19.

The Hawkeyes are coming off another exceptional season where they racked up seven top-three tournament finishes as a team. Their second place finish at the Big Ten Championships marks their best finish since winning the title at Finkbine in 1992. Additionally, the Black and Gold competed in NCAA Regional play for the second consecutive year, a feat they haven’t accomplished since 1960.
