Summer Spotlight: Allison Straumann

The 2010 Hawkeyes understand the excitement that accompanies summer vacation – long days, trips to the pool, spending countless hours with friends – so they’re using the official website of the Iowa Hawkeyes to connect with their fans and share a little bit about themselves. Today’s Summer Spotlight is Allison Straumann, a sophomore journalism and health sports studies major from Cary, IL.

What was your favorite memory from the 2009 season?
“Snapping Penn State’s winning streak!!”

Tell us an interesting fact about yourself?
“I am terrified of scary movies but I LOVE watching them.”

Why did you choose the University of Iowa and Iowa Volleyball?
“The pride at the University of Iowa is unmatched, and from the second I saw that I knew I wanted to be a part of it.”

Favorite Iowa volleyball player (past or present) to watch and why?
Mallory Husz because she is so spunky on and off the court and always keeps it fun!”

If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
“It’s a tie – either some exotic beach in the Bahamas or Australia.”

Favorite thing about the Iowa Volleyball Team?
“How close we all are and the incredible friendships I have gained by being a part of it!”

What super power would you most like to have? Why?
“I wish that I could have the power to heal people. Going from an illness to an injury, I just wish that there was a way to not take people away from the things that they love.”

If you could play another sport in college what would it be and why?
“Gymnastics because of all of the flips and crazy things they do!”

Most played song (& by whom) on your iPod?
“Anything O.A.R. because I have been to their concert and had the time of my life with some of my best friends.”

What is the best characteristic about you?
“I am a good listener. I feel like I can listen to what someone has to say good or bad, put myself in their shoes, and try to give them the best advice I can.”

What is something you can’t live without? Why?
“My iPod because it always puts me in a good mood!”

Future plans after graduating from the University of Iowa?
“Going back home and hopefully getting a columnist or sports broadcasting job in Chicago.”

I play best when… the whole team works as one and we are just having fun.

The best thing about volleyball is… The fact that the sport is based around relying on your teammates and the intensity that one feels while playing it.

I hope to be remembered in life for… Being fun and outgoing, but also a hardworking and determined person.

On day I will… Win the lottery!!!
