COLLEGE STATION, TX – University of Iowa divers Deidre Freeman and Veronica Rydze placed fourth in the women’s 3-meter synchronized diving finals at the AT&T National Diving Championships. The duo entered Saturday’s finals seeded sixth, but outperformed their draw by posting a score of 259.32.
With their fourth place finish, Freeman and Rydze have increased their chances of being invited to participate in the World Championships in July 2011, which is one step closer to earning an opportunity to compete in the Olympic Trials for the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The duo advanced to the diving finals after placing sixth in the championships’ preliminary round.
Freeman also placed 12th in the women’s 1-meter springboard competition. The Hawkeye senior recorded a score of 247.90 in the preliminary round, less than five points shy of advancing to the championship finals.
