Camp Central: Meet the Hawkeye newcomers

Aug. 23, 2010

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Monday was the first day of classes for students at the University of Iowa. Three first-year football players have been in town practicing most of the month of August. They were not around the Hayden Fry Football Complex on Aug. 23, but will return to the field tomorrow.

Matt Meyers is a 6-2, 215-pound fullback from Plainfield, Ill.; James Morris is a 6-foot-2, 215-pound linebacker from Solon, Iowa; and Austin Vier is a 6-7, 228-pound tight end from Huxley, Iowa.

Meyers says the UI offense is known for its running prowess and he is all for any way to make offensive coordinator Ken O’Keefe’s crew more effective. Morris is excited to be in camp and says he is trying to make the team better each day in practice. Like Morris, playing for the Hawkeyes is a dream-come-true for Vier, one of the tallest members of the 2010 Hawkeye squad.
