Lincoln, NE – – The University of Iowa women’s golf team is in eighth place at the Chip-N Club Invitational after finishing the first round of play Monday. The second round of the tournament was scheduled to be completed on Monday as well, but due to weather delays was postponed until Tuesday morning. Following the first round, the USTA Roadrunners are leading the tournament with a five-stroke lead over Kansas State. The Chip-N Club Invitational is the Hawkeyes’ first tournament of the season.
Senior Laura Cilek led the Hawkeyes in the first round after finishing with a 74 (+2). She enters the second round on Tuesday tied for ninth place. Junior Chelsea Harris also played well for Iowa, finishing her first 18 holes tied for 26th (+5, 77).
Senior Brianna Coopman is tied for 37th place after firing a 78 (+6). Fellow senior Lauren Forbes finished the day tied for 47th after posting a 79 (+7). Sophomore Kristi Cardwell rounded out the Hawkeye line-up, shooting a 81 (+9), leaving her tied for 64th place.
The tournament is scheduled to end on Tuesday when the 15 competing teams tee off at 9:00 a.m. (CT) for the final 36 holes.
