THIS WEEK
The Hawkeyes will travel to Madison, Wisc., to compete in the 54-hole Badger Invitational Sunday and Monday. The tournament will be played at the par 72, 6,205 yard University Ridge Golf Course. The teams will play 36 holes Sunday beginning at 8:30 a.m. (CT) with a shotgun start. The final 18 holes will be completed Monday starting at 8:00 a.m. (CT). Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com.
THE COMPETITION
Iowa will compete against 10 teams; Augusta State, Bradley, Bucknell, Drake, Georgetown, North Dakota State, Texas El Paso, Southern Methodist, Wisconsin and Xavier.
HAWKEYE LINE-UP
Six Hawkeyes will travel to Madison; Kristi Cardwell, Woojay Choi, Laura Cilek, Brianna Coopman, Lauren Forbes and Chelsea Harris. Choi will compete as an individual.
HOST IOWA WINS HAWKEYE INVITATIONAL
Iowa won the 54-hole Hawkeye Invitational with a total score of 926, shooting rounds of 301, 313, and 312. The tournament title was Iowa’s first since 2006. Sophomore Kristi Cardwell paced the Hawkeyes shooting a 227 (+11) and finishing third individually. Junior Chelsea Harris was the second Hawkeye in the top five, posting a 230 (+14) to place fourth. Senior Laura Cilek placed seventh after recording a 234 (+18). Fellow senior Lauren Forbes carded 77’s (+5) in the first and third rounds to tie for eighth. The Hawkeyes third senior, Brianna Coopman, finished tied for 22nd, firing a third round 79 (+7) while competing as an individual. Freshman Karly Grouwinkel, competing as an individual, finished tied for 30th in her first collegiate tournament after carding a 246 (+30). Freshman Woojay Choi tied for 35th after shooting a 248 (+32). Choi’s first competition at the collegiate level also came as an individual. Sophomore Gigi DiGrazia rounded out Iowa’s scoring with a 259 (+43).
HEAD COACH Kelly Crawford
Head Coach Kelly Crawford has been in charge of the women’s golf program for five years. The Sacramento State alum has six letterwinners returning from the 2009-10 season. She leads Iowa into its third tournament of the season.
