Hawkeye Women Finish 13th at Notre Dame Invite

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – – The University of Iowa women’s cross country team competed at the Notre Dame Invitational Friday in South Bend, IN. The Black and Gold, ranked second in the Midwest Region and 24th nationally, finished 13th overall, with a score of 366. The meet was held at Burke Memorial Golf Course. It marked Iowa’s third event of the season and first away from the Ashton Cross Country Course in Iowa City.

Top-ranked Villanova won the women’s 5K event, posting a team score of 64. Lucy Van Dalen of Stony Brook University finished first in the event with a time of 16:22. The Hawkeyes were paced by Brooke Eilers. The junior finished 41st overall, posting a time of 17:25. Not far behind was fellow junior Betsy Flood. She finished 45th after posting a time of 17:28. Senior Lauren Hardesty finished 69th. She ran a time of 17:42. Junior McKenzie Melander ran a time of 18:05 to finish 99th. Freshman Megan Ranegar ran a time of 18:15 to finish 115th. Kelsey Hart finished 119th. The sophomore posted a time of 18:18. Also competing for the Hawkeyes were senior Amanda Hardesty (143rd – 18:34), freshman Katherin Rehn (146th – 18:39) and freshman Hannah Luber (177th – 19:11).

The University of Iowa men’s cross country squad, ranked fifth in the Midwest Region, will compete Saturday at the Wisconsin adidas Invitational in Madison, WI. The University of Wisconsin is the host school. The men’s 8K is scheduled to begin at 11:45 a.m. central time at the Zimmer Championship Course. Both men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel to the Pre-Nationals Meet Oct. 16. It will be held in Terre Haute, IN, the site of the 2010 NCAA Championships.
