IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa women’s basketball team earned a Top 20 preseason national ranking from Lindy’s Sports in the latest College Basketball Preview magazine. The Hawkeyes are ranked 19th in the early poll.

“This was the surprise team at the end of the Big Ten season last year with a confluence of talent in Kachine Alexander, Jaime Printy and Kamille Wahlin,” the preseason magazine said. “They all return this season after combining to score almost 45 points a game last year for the Hawkeyes, who went 20-14 and rallied for a third-place finish in the Big Ten, winning nine of its last 11 regular-season games.”

Lindy’s Sports also predicts another 20-win season for the Hawkeyes.

“Iowa has posted three straight 20-win seasons,” Lindy’s Sports said. “Let’s make it four.”

Three Iowa opponents were also listed in the preseason Top 25. Ohio State (8th), North Carolina (14th) and Michigan State (23rd) were all ranked.

This season marks the first time since 2006-07 the Hawkeyes are ranked in a preseason publication. Iowa was ranked 24th by Lindy’s Sports that year.

Iowa will open play Nov. 7 with an exhibition against Concordia-St. Paul at 1 p.m.
