IOWA CITY, Iowa — – The nationally ranked University of Iowa football team is the No. 15 team in the first Bowl Championship Series standings of 2010. The Hawkeyes were the No. 6 team in the first BCS poll of 2009 and climbed as high as No. 4 en route to an appearance in the 2010 FedEx Orange Bowl where they defeated Georgia Tech.
“Iowa has games at home against Wisconsin, Michigan State and Wisconsin. If the Hawkeyes keep winning, they’ll be in the picture,” ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit said of Kirk Ferentz’s squad.
“There no reason why an Iowa team that played one bad half of football at Arizona — a pretty good team — should be penalized,” Herbstreit offfered later when he placed the Hawkeyes as the No. 6 team in his BCS Top 10.
