Evanston, Ill–The University of Iowa women’s soccer team traveled to Evanston, Ill. to face the Wildcats of Northwestern. Despite a solid second half defensive effort, the Hawkeyes (7-7-2) were unable to get past the Wildcats (6-7-3), falling 3-0.

Northwestern’s offense was fierce in the first 45 minutes of play. The Wildcats managed to convert two corner kicks and find the net on an Iowa error to enter the midpoint of the game with a 3-0 lead.

The Hawkeye defense buckled down in the second period, holding the Wildcat attack scoreless through the final 45 minutes. Junior goalkeeper Emily Moran made seven stops in the conference game.

Iowa’s offense created twelve shot opportunities, but a stingy Northwestern defense prevented an Iowa goal.

“We have a two day turn around to get better,” Head Coach Ron Rainey said. “We are going to get back to some of our basics on offense and defense. Our expectations are high that we will see a much better product on Sunday against Indiana.”

The Iowa women’s soccer team welcomes Indiana and Hawkeye fans to the Iowa Soccer Complex for a Pink game Sunday afternoon. Kickoff for the Kickin’ Breast Cancer game is set for 2:05 p.m. The Big Ten Network will be broadcasting the game live from the Hawkeyes’ home field.
