IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa football team has been named the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl National Team of the Week following its 37-6 win over fifth-ranked Michigan State last Saturday in Kinnick Stadium. The announcement was made today by the Football Writers Association of America.
The Hawkeyes moved to bowl eligibility for the 10th straight year with the win over the previously unbeaten Spartans. Iowa is now 6-2 overall and 3-1 in Big Ten play. The Hawkeyes built a 30-0 halftime lead and continued to shut down a high powered Michigan State on its way to 31-point win. Iowa held Michigan State to 31 yards rushing and 258 yards total offense.
The FWAA have been naming a team of the week since 2002. It’s the second time Iowa has been named National Team of the Week. The Hawkeyes earned the honor following their 24-23 win over third-ranked Penn State in 2008.
