IOWA CITY, Iowa – THE SETTING
The University of Iowa women’s basketball team hosts Kansas State Sunday as a part of the Big Ten/Big 12 Challenge. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
PROMOTIONS
Sunday is the annual “BuckNight,” with all tickets just $1. Local Iowa City and Coralville Hy-Vee stores also purchased 2,000 tickets for Sunday’s game and fans can stop by the customer service desk to obtain a free ticket.
The Air Elite Dunkers will also be performing at halftime.

Iowa has played 1,043 games, since beginning basketball in 1974. Iowa’s overall record is 636-407 (.610). That includes a 318-158 (.668) mark in regular season Big Ten contests and a 300-87 (.775) mark in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
WIN NO. 300 AT HOME
The UI women’s basketball program picked up victory No. 300 inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena with a 90-79 win over Central Michigan Nov. 21. The Hawkeyes have compiled a 300-87 (.775) record inside their home venue since it opened in 1983.
SCOUTING KANSAS STATE
The Kansas State Wildcats are 6-0 on the season.
Brittany Chambers leads the team with 17.3 points per game. She has made 17 of Kansas State’s 30 three-pointers. Jalana Childs is also averaging double figures at 11 points per contest. Branshea Brown is K-State’s leading rebounder, with 6.3 boards per contest.
As a team, the Wildcats are shooting .394 from the field (130-330), including .268 (30-112) from three-point range.
The Wildcats hold a +12.5 scoring margin, limiting their opponents to 49.2 points per game.
KANSAS STATE VS. IOWA NOTES
? Kansas State has won the previous three meetings. The first meeting came at Kansas State during the 1978-79 season (80-93). The next was in 2002-03 at Kansas State (60-103). The third meeting was in Iowa City during the 2003-04 season (60-82).
? Kansas State assistant coach Kelly Moylan was a graduate assistant at Northern Iowa. She earned her master’s degree in physical education from UNI in 1996.
IOWA IN THE RANKINGS
The Hawkeyes are ranked No. 18 in both the AP and the ESPN/USA Today top 25.
Four Iowa opponents are also ranked in the AP and ESPN/USA Today polls: Ohio State (6/6), North Carolina (14/15), Iowa State (19/17) and Michigan State (25/25).
Kansas State, Purdue, Northwestern and Penn State are receiving votes.
HAWKEYES SUFFER FIRST LOSS OF SEASON
No. 14 North Carolina handed Iowa its first loss of the season Thursday, as the Hawkeyes fell, 79-67 in Chapel Hill.
The Hawkeyes fell behind early, trailing 13-2 just 3:30 into the game. North Carolina stretched its lead to 20 points later in the first half, but Iowa trimmed its deficit to 15 heading into halftime.
Iowa put together a comeback in the second half, cutting the Tar Heel lead to just one point at the 11:13 mark, but couldn’t take the lead.
Jaime Printy led the way with 17 points and seven assists. Morgan Johnson added a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Kamille Wahlin also chipped in 16 points. Kachine Alexander finished one point shy of a double-double with nine points and 10 boards.
BLUDER CLOSING IN ON MILESTONE
Iowa Head Coach Lisa Bluder is just four wins away from becoming only the second coach in school history to reach the 200-win milestone.
Bluder currently has 196 wins in her 11 years at Iowa. C. Vivian Stringer is the only other Hawkeye head coach to reach the 200-win plateau at Iowa, finishing her time in Iowa City with 269 wins.
Ohio State Head Coach Jim Foster is the only other active Big Ten coach to have reached 200 wins at his/her current school.
JOHNSON’S BIG GAME AT NORTH CAROLINA
Morgan Johnson grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds aginst North Carolina, topping her previous high of 12 boards (vs. Columbia, 11/28/09).
Johnson also scored 16 points for her fourth career double-double (second this season). She scored 22 points and had 10 rebounds in Iowa’s win over Northeastern Nov. 20.
BOMBS AWAY FOR A SCHOOL RECORD
The Hawkeyes set a school record with 37 three-point attempts against North Carolina Dec. 2. Iowa was just one three-pointer away from tying the school record for long distance shots made (12).
Kamille Wahlin attempted 11 treys while Jaime Printy had nine.
HAWKEYES TIE SCHOOL RECORD AGAINST VIRGINIA TECH
Iowa tied a school record with 12 made three-pointers against Virginia Tech Nov. 26. Iowa went 12-29 from distance. The Hawkeyes made 12 three-pointers against Gonzaga (11/21/02) and Columbia (11/28/09).
ALEXANDER CRACKS TOP 10 IN CAREER REBOUNDING
Kachine Alexander’s 10 rebounds against North Carolina Dec. 2 increased her career total to 695, moving her into 10th place on Iowa’s career rebounding list. Alexander moved past Lisa Becker, who collected 691 rebounds from 1893-87.
BALANCED SCORING ATTACK
Iowa is the only Big Ten team to have five players ranked among the top 30 scorers in the league. All five Hawkeye starters are averaging double figures.
Northwestern, Purdue and Penn State each have four players ranked in the top 30 while Ohio State has three. The remaining six Big Ten school have either one or two players in the top 30.
The Hawkeyes have had at least three players reach double figures in scoring in all eight games this year. Five players scored 10 or more points against Bradley. Four players hit double digits against Northeastern and Central Michigan.
CERMAK SEEING INCREASED MINUTES
Senior co-captain Kelsey Cermak is seeing a significant increase in her minutes this season.
Cermak has played 20 or more minutes in four of Iowa’s eight games. In her previous three years combined, Cermak had hit 20 or more minutes just three times.
Cermak played in 33 total minutes as a freshman and 89 as a sophomore. She played 431 minutes as a junior and has already played 154 minutes as a senior.
HAWKEYES HITTING THE BOARDS
Iowa’s rebounding numbers through its first eight games are impressive, as the Hawkeyes lead the Big Ten in total rebounding (45.8 per game) and offensive rebounding (15.6).
Kachine Alexander is Iowa’s leading rebounder at 10 boards per contest. Her 18 rebounds against Central Michigan Nov. 21 are the most for any Big Ten player this season.
AT THE CHARITY STRIPE
Iowa is currently first in the Big Ten with a .800 free throw percentage. Jaime Printy leads the league at .963 (26-27) and Kachine Alexander is 12th at .815 (44-54). Four Hawkeyes have already attempted 20 or more free throws.
The Hawkeyes went a combined 41-46 from the charity stripe at the Caribbean Challenge. Iowa was 27-30 against James Madison and 14-16 vs. Virginia Tech.
MOVING UP CAREER CHARTS
Four Hawkeyes are currently working their way up the career records lists at Iowa.
? Kachine Alexander ranks 10th in career rebounding (695), 15th in career assists (253) and 30th in career scoring (909). She needs 32 more rebounds to move past Franthea Price for ninth place on the rebounding list and 10 assists to move past Leah Magner for 14th on the assists list.
? Morgan Johnson ranks fifth in career blocks (97) and needs 18 more to move past Jennie Lillis into fourth place.
? Kamille Wahlin ranks sixth in career three-pointers made (128) and needs 11 more to move past Kristi Faulkner into fifth place.
? Jaime Printy ranks 11th in career three-pointers made (100) and needs nine more to move past Jenna Armstrong and into the top 10 of the list.
