IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s basketball earned the No. 4 seed in the 2011 Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament. The Hawkeyes will face No. 5 seed Ohio State Friday at approximately 7:30 p.m. (CT). The 2011 Big Ten Tournament will be held at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Iowa finished in a four-way tie for third place in the Big Ten standings with Michigan, Ohio State and Wisconsin. By virtue of its 5-0 (1.000) combined record against the three other teams, Michigan took the No. 3 seed. The Hawkeyes were 2-3 (.400) against the three teams, giving them the No. 4 seed. Ohio State finished 2-4 (.333) vs. the three teams to get the No. 5 seed. Wisconsin was 0-5 (.000) in the four-way tie to take the No. 6 seed.

Iowa enters the 2011 Big Ten Tournament with a 22-7 overall record, having won seven of its last nine contests, including the last five in a row. Iowa earned a top-four seed in the Big Ten Tournament for the fourth-consecutive season.

Ohio State wrapped up the regular season with a 19-9 overall record, winning its last six contests by an average of 13 points.

Ohio State and Iowa split a pair of games during the regular season, with each team winning at home. The Hawkeyes won the first contest of the season in Iowa City, 98-76. Ohio State won in Columbus, 81-67.

Friday’s quarterfinal matchup will be a rematch of last year’s Big Ten Tournament championship game, which Ohio State won by two points.

The Hawkeyes hold an all-time record of 16-14 in the Big Ten Tournament, having won the title in 1997 and 2001. Iowa is 4-3 in the Big Ten Tournament as the No. 4 seed and 1-2 vs. Ohio State in Big Ten Tournament contests.
