Meet the Hawkeyes: Emily Yanny

IOWA CITY, IowaEmily Yanny is a 6-2 middle blocker from New Berlin, WI. She was named third team all-state and Woodland Conference Player of the Year while competing for new Berlin Eisenhower. She enrolled at the University of Iowa in January and recently sat down with hawkeyesports.com for some quick hitters.

What do you think of Iowa City so far?
“I love it. I love the whole environment. It’s definitely a college town. I love the uniqueness of the buildings. It’s gorgeous here.”

How are your living quarters?
“I live in the Quad (dorm) with (teammate) Grace. She also transferred here at the semester break and so far it’s been a lot of fun.”

What have you been doing since arriving on campus in January?
“Going to class, playing volleyball and studying a lot.”

What have you been doing around campus when you’re not studying or playing volleyball?
“I’ve just been hanging out with friends.”

Have you found your favorite Iowa City restaurant?
“I haven’t had much time to eat out, but I do like the Bluebird Diner.”

Are you a breakfast, lunch or dinner person?
“I love breakfast food. I always have. I could eat it any time of day. “

What’s your favorite Holiday?
“Christmas because I love being able to spend time with my family.”

Do you prefer watching movies at home or in the movie theater?
“Watching movies at home because it has such a relaxed feeling and you can talk whenever you want and no one will shush you.”

What’s your favorite movie?
“That’s a tough question. I have too many to name one.”

What’s the last movie you saw?
“The last movie I saw was probably… Win a Date with Tad Hamilton.”

Do you have any nicknames?
“Most people at my high school just called my Yanny, but the team hasn’t branded me with a nickname yet. We’ll see.”

What’s your favorite midnight snack?
“Granola bars.”
