THIS WEEK
Two University of Iowa women’s divers will represent the Hawkeyes at the 2011 NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas. Senior Deidre Freeman and junior Veronica Rydze will compete in the one and three-meter diving events Thursday through Saturday at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center on the University of Texas campus.
Both competitors will compete in the one-meter on Thursday March 17 and three-meter on Friday March 18.

FREEMAN AT THE ZONE D DIVING QUALIFER
Senior Deidre Freeman earned her berth to the 2011 NCAA Championships with a fourth-place finish on one-meter springboard at the Zone D Diving Qualifier last weekend in Austin, Texas, finishing with 592.45 points. The Grinnell, Iowa, native also placed seventh on the three-meter springboard (622.75).
RYDZE AT THE ZONE D DIVING QUALIFIER
Senior Veronica Rydze advanced to the 2011 NCAA Championships with a third place finish in the three-meter at the Zone D Diving Qualifier last weekend, finishing with 644.60 points. The Iowa City, Iowa, native also placed 11th in the one-meter event (534.90).
FREEMAN AT BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Deidre Freeman set a school record on both the one and three-meter springboard events at the 2011 Big Ten Championships in Bloomington, Ind. The senior placed third on the one-meter springboard with a score of 388.55 to break Lisette Planken’s previous school record of 326.55, which was set in 2005. Freeman then broke All-American and Olympic diver Nanciela Underwood’s school mark of 400.05 in three-meter, as she finished with a score of 407.70.
RYDZE AT BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Veronica Rydze placed seventh on the 3-meter springboard with a collegiate best score of 358.45 at the Big Ten Championships. The senior earned another collegiate best score of 296.35 on the one-meter board, which led to a 12th place finish.
FREEMAN AND RYDZE IN IOWA RECORD BOOK
Deidre Freeman holds the school records in the one (388.55) and three-meter (407.70) springboards, which puts her atop Iowa’s all-time top performers list. Rydze’s marks in the one-meter (296.35) and three-meter (358.45) rank fifth and second, respectively, on Iowa’s all-time top performers list.
DIVING COACH Bob Rydze
Bob Rydze is in his 36th year as diving coach of the Hawkeye men and women’s teams. Rydze served as Team Leader for the USA Diving team at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing, China. During his tenure with the Hawkeyes, Rydze has coached 31 All-Americans, nine Big Ten and one NCAA Champion.
