Hawkeyes Move Up One Spot on Final Day

PRIMM, Nev. — The University of Iowa women’s golf team finished third out of 14 teams at the Jackrabbit Invitational after shooting a 298 (+14) during Tuesday’s third and final round. The Hawkeyes finished the 54-hole tournament with a 910 (307-305-298, +58) while playing on the par 71, 6,029 yard Lakes Course at Primm Valley Golf Club. Oral Roberts (295-290-287=872, +20) ended atop the leaderboard and was followed by Missouri State (292-296-295=883, +31). The Hawkeyes finished sixth out of 16 teams last year at the event.

“What a week, what a finish, I’m so proud of the girls,” said Head Coach Kelly Crawford. “They played so solid today and we moved up to third. Our strength coach, Gabrielle Quiggle, will appreciate that. I’m really happy for Kristi too. I’m just so happy for all the girls.”

Sophomore Kristi Cardwell led the Hawkeyes for a second straight day. She fired a third round 72 (+1) to end with a 54-hole score of 223 (78-73-72, +10). Cardwell finished in ninth place. Junior Chelsea Harris finished two-strokes behind Cardwell with a 225 (76-76-73, +12) to tie for 14th place.

Sophomore Gigi DiGrazia tied for 21st, the best finish of her career, after shooting a 230 (79-77-74, +17) while competing as an individual. Senior Laura Cilek entered the final round tied for 29th and recorded a third-round 76 (+5) to maintain her position on the leaderboard. Fellow senior Lauren Forbes ended the event in 32nd place after recording a 233 (77-78-77, +20). Iowa’s scorecard was rounded out by freshman Woojay Choi, who posted a 238 (83-77-78, +25) over the three-rounds. Senior Brianna Coopman finished with a 244 (77-84-83, +31) while competing as an individual.

The Hawkeyes tee off next in Trabuco Canyon, Calif., at the Anteater Invitational March 28-29.
