DOVE CANYON, Calif. — The University of Iowa women’s golf team is in seventh place after two rounds at the Anteater Invitational. The Hawkeyes carded a 623 (307-316, +55) Monday while playing at the par 71, 5,890-yard Dove Canyon Country Club. Iowa enters Tuesday’s third round trailing leader Long Beach State (292-300=592, +24), Portland State (296-298=594, +26), host UC Irvine (301-305=606, +38) and Nevada (300-306=606, +38).
“I saw some really good things out there today,” said Head Coach Kelly Crawford. “Unfortunately we just couldn’t get it going in the second round. I feel we will make the adjustments and play much better tomorrow. I believe in these girls.”
Sophomore Kristi Cardwell led the Hawkeyes over the tournament’s first 36-holes, as she fired a 151 (71-80, +9) to end the day in 12th place. Her first round 71 marked the first time during the spring season that a Hawkeye had posted an even round.
Senior Laura Cilek and junior Chelsea Harris are tied for 25th after they both shot 156’s (+14). Freshman Woojay Choi recorded a career-low 76 (+5) during the first round en route to 157 (76-81, +15). Choi, who is competing as an individual at the event, enters Tuesday tied for 28th. The Hawkeye scorecard was rounded out by senior Lauren Forbes and sophomore Gigi DiGrazia. Forbes carded a 160 (77-83, +18) while DiGrazia posted a 167 (82-85, +25).
The tournament will conclude Tuesday with a third round that will begin with a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m. (CT). Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com.
