DOVE CANYON, Calif. – – The University of Iowa women’s golf team remained in seventh place after the final round of the Anteater Invitational, despite posting a 306 (+22), its best round of the 54-hole tournament. Iowa finished the event with a 929 (307-316-306, +77) while playing at the par 71, 5,890-yard Dove Canyon Country Club. Portland State (296-298-296=890, +38) finished atop the leaderboard and was followed by Nevada (300-306-290=896, +44) and host UC Irvine (301-305-293=899, +47).
Sophomore Kristi Cardwell led the Hawkeyes for the second straight day, firing a final-round 73 (+2). Cardwell moved up one spot on the final day, finishing in 11th place with a 224 (71-80-73, +11). Junior Chelsea Harris also moved up one spot during the final day after shooting a tournament-low 76 (+5). Harris ended the event with a 232 (79-77-76, +19) to finish in a 24th place tie.
“I’m really happy for Kristi,” said Head Coach Kelly Crawford. “She had another strong finish. I think she learned a lot from this tournament.”
Senior Laura Cilek ended the event in a 31st place tie with a 236 (80-76-80, +23). Freshman Woojay Choi carded a 239 (76-81-82, +26) while competing as an individual, finishing tied for 37th. Sophomore Gigi DiGrazia fired a third-round 77 (+6), her best round of the tournament, to post a 244 (82-85-77, +31). Senior Lauren Forbes rounded out the Iowa scorecard with a 245 (77-83-85, +32).
Iowa will play next in Columbus, Ohio at the Lady Buckeye Invitational April 16-17.
