MADISON, Wis. — The University of Iowa volleyball team split a two-set match with Marquette to earn a third place finish at the Badger Spring Invitational last weekend.

The Hawkeyes finished second in pool play, posting a 1-0-3 record at the University of Wisconsin’s Kohl Center. Iowa swept a pair of sets from Michigan Tech (25-16, 25-16) and split with Minnesota (25-22, 12-25), Northern Illinois (26-24, 14-25) and Wisconsin-Milwaukee (25-19, 20-25).

The Badger Spring Invitational was Iowa’s second of four spring competitions. The Hawkeyes opened the spring season March 26 with a pair of wins over Truman State and Western Illinois at the University of Iowa Field House.

“We saw a lot of improvement from the first weekend of competition to this past weekend,” said head coach Sharon Dingman. “I thought we served and passed much better and made several effort plays this team hasn’t made in the past. Inconsistency continues to haunt, but I loved the mindset we started with each match. Now, it’s learning to sustain that. There were a lot of very good volleyball teams at the tournament so it was good for the Hawks to be challenged like that.”

The Hawkeyes’ spring season continues Saturday with a road trip to Valparaiso, Ind. Iowa concludes the spring competition with a visit to Minneapolis on Saturday, April 16.
