IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa soccer team spent Wednesday morning with elementary students at Garner Elementary School in North Liberty. The Hawkeyes interacted with students in kindergarten, first and second grade.
“It was great to see the team interacting with individuals and both small and large groups of students,” Rainey said. “There were a lot of smiles, both by Garner students and the Iowa players and coaches.”
Members of the team spent time with students reading, playing games and taking part in recess and physical education activities. Head coach Ron Rainey was joined by sophomore Jade Grimm and junior Gabrielle Tinner, among others, at the school for the community service event.
“It was a lot of fun getting to read to the kids,” Tinner said. “Giving time to the youth reminds me of how carefree life is. I enjoyed today, and I think they did too.”
