GLENCOE, Ill. – – The University of Iowa women’s golf team was unable to finish the second round at the Big Ten Championships Friday due to inclement weather. The Hawkeyes ended the first round in 10th place after firing a 318 (+30) at the par 72, 6,303 yard Lake Shore Country Club. No. 4 Purdue, the defending champion, and Wisconsin shot 303’s (+15) to tie for the first-round lead.
Sophomore Kristi Cardwell shot a team-best 77 (+5) during the first round. Cardwell entered the second round in 15th place tie. Senior Laura Cilek finished the first round two strokes off Cardwell’s pace with a seven-over 79. Cilek ended the first round tied for 34th place. The Hawkeye scorecard was rounded out by junior Chelsea Harris and senior Lauren Forbes, who both recorded first round 81’s (+9). Senior Brianna Coopman (86, +14) and sophomore Gigi DiGrazia (90, +18) also competed for Iowa.
Second round play will resume Saturday at 9 a.m. (CT) and will be followed by the third round.
