Freeman and Rydze to Compete at the World Championships Trials

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa divers Deidre Freeman and Veronica Rydze will compete at the USA Diving 2011 World Championships trials for synchronized diving and 1-meter events Thursday through Sunday at the Morcom Aquatics Center on the campus of Florida State. The divers will both compete in the individual 1-meter and 3-meter synchro events.

The women’s 3-meter synchro preliminary and semifinal rounds will be held on Friday, May 13, while the women’s 1-meter preliminary and semifinal rounds will take place Saturday, May 14. The final rounds of both events will be held Sunday.

The divers last competed at the NCAA Championships March 17-18 in Austin, Texas. Freeman earned an All-America honor for her efforts on the 1 and 3-meter boards, while Rydze received the accolade on the 1-meter.

Rydze placed 13th overall on the 1-meter (296.65) and was unable to finish the 3-meter event due to an injury. Freeman placed 15th overall on the 1-meter (286.30) and 10th on the 3-meter (370.65).
