INDIANAPOLIS — University of Iowa senior Bethany Praska broke the school record in the women’s outdoor 800 meter run for the second time this year after running in a high performance meet in Indianapolis Wednesday.

Praska, a Longmont, Colo., native, ran the two lap race in 2:03.78, besting her previous record mark of 2:05.46 set at the War Eagle Invitational. The time secures her an automatic spot in the USA Track and Field Championships held in Eugene, Ore., next week.

The recent Hawkeye graduate concluded her career with an outdoor Big Ten Championship in the event, taking gold with a time of 2:05.62. In addition to the individual crown, Praska ran the opening leg on the women’s 1,600-meter relay team that also won a Big Ten Championship. The mile relay advanced to the NCAA Championships after a top-12 performance at the regional event in Eugene, Ore., and clocked a 3:38.98.

Praska will join a group of Hawkeyes competing at the USA Track and Field Championships next week. The event is scheduled for June 23-26.
