IOWA CITY, Iowa – –The University of Iowa is partnering with the John Deere Classic and Transamerica on the staging of the first annual “University of Iowa Day” on Thursday, July 7. This is a day for Hawkeye fans to come together and enjoy a PGA TOUR event at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.
Fans of the Hawkeyes who make their way to TPC Deere Run are invited to visit the “Home of the Hawkeyes,” located near the tee boxes for holes No. 7 and No. 9 between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Fans will have the opportunity to visit with current Hawkeye coaches and former athletes, take their picture with the 2011 Insight Bowl trophy, the 2010 FedEx Orange Bowl trophy and the 2011 Big Ten Conference Men’s Track and Field Championship trophy, and to register to win great prizes.
The schedule of special guests includes former UI football players A.J. Edds and Pat Angerer from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.; Ryan Bowen (tentative) of the UI men’s basketball staff and head men’s golf coach Mark Hankins between 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.; and former Hawkeyes Tim Dwight and Scott Chandler between 3:30 p.m. – 4:15 p.m.
PGA professional, Kyle Stanley, will also make an appearance after concluding his play during Thursday’s round. They’ll be joined by administrative staff of the UI Athletics Department.
Hawkeye fans can register to win a pair of season tickets for the upcoming Iowa football, volleyball, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and wrestling seasons, and pairs of tickets to select home UI Athletic events, autographed items by Kirk Ferentz, Fran McCaffery, Lisa Bluder, and Tom Brands. A guided tour of historic Kinnick Stadium will also be given away.
