IOWA CITY, Iowa — Six members of the University of Iowa track and field team have been honored by the Big Ten Conference with the Distinguished Scholar Award. The Hawkeyes were among a total of 34 University of Iowa student-athletes to receive the honor. Of the 34 Hawkeye honorees, 10 maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average during the previous academic term, including track and field student-athletes Kelsey Hart and Hannah Roeder.
“We are very proud of these student-athletes and this tremendous accomplishment,” said head coach Layne Anderson. “We have traditionally done very well as a team with respect to academics and these six student-athletes led the way for the Hawkeyes during the 2010-11 academic year.”
The Distinguished Scholar Award is presented to student-athletes who have earned a minimum grade-point average (GPA) of 3.7 or higher for the previous academic year. The honorees must be a letterwinner and in at least their second academic year at their institution.
