IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa football team is receiving votes in the Preseason USA Today Coaches’ Poll.

The Hawkeyes received 41 votes, ranking 30th in the poll. Iowa was ranked 21st in the 2009 preseason poll and 10th in last year’s poll.

Eight Big Ten squads are ranked or receiving votes in the USA Today poll. The Big Ten is one of only three conferences to feature more than two teams among the top 25. Wisconsin (10), Nebraska (11), Ohio State (16), Michigan State (17) and Penn State (25) are ranked, while Iowa, Northwestern and Michigan are all receiving votes.

Pittsburgh, a non-conference opponent, is also listed among teams receiving votes. Pittsburgh, Northwestern, Michigan and Michigan State visit Kinnick Stadium, while Iowa plays at Nebraska.

The Sporting News ranks the Hawkeyes 28th in its Preseason Top 120. The publication predicts Iowa to finish 9-3 overall and 5-3 in the Big Ten.

Iowa opens its 2011 season against Tennessee Tech on Sept. 3 at Kinnick Stadium. Kickoff is 11 a.m., CT (BTN, HD).
