Aug. 9, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa senior defensive lineman Broderick Binns has been named to the Ted Hendricks Award preseason watch list. The award is given annually to the nation’s top defensive end.

Binns (6-2, 261) was named to the Ted Hendricks Award preseason watch list a year ago. Earlier this summer, the St. Paul, Minn., native was a second team All-Big Ten honoree by Phil Steele and an honorable mention preseason All-American by Consensus Draft Services. Binns and fellow defensive lineman Mike Daniels were also named to Lindy’s inaugural Pony Express Award Watch List.

Binns saw action in 12 games a year ago, starting five games at defensive end and recording 36 tackles. In 2009, Binns earned honorable mention All-Big Ten accolades after starting all 13 games at defensive end and posting six sacks.

Iowa opens its 2011 season against Tennessee Tech on Sept. 3 at Kinnick Stadium. Kickoff is 11 a.m., CT (BTN HD).
