Lacasse Gets Conference Nod

Sept. 5, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa freshman Cloe Lacasse was named the Big Ten Conference’s Freshman of the Week honoree following her role in Iowa’s wins over the weekend. The announcement was made Monday by the league’s office.

Lacasse scored two of the team’s four goals in the 4-1 win over George Washington, including one on a penalty kick conversion. The native of Ontario, Canada, led the team’s offense in a 3-1 win over American University as well, netting one goal and tallying an assist.

The freshman’s leads the team in scoring this season with six goals and two assists for 14 points. In addition to her leadership on the attack, Lacasse has played an incremental role in the team’s success. Iowa is 5-0 to start the 2011 season and is the only squad to start the season with five consecutive wins in program history.

Lacasse is the second Hawkeye to win the conference honor this season. Senior goalkeeper Emily Moran was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 22. Lacasse is the first Iowa newcomer to Freshman of the Week since Alyscha Mottershead collected to award in Sept. 2009 and only the second freshman in school history to get the nod.
