The Hawkeyes will face some tough competition at the Roy Griak Invitational. Four major conferences will be represented this Saturday. Competing for the Big Ten along with the Hawkeyes, will be Michigan State, Penn State and Minnesota. North Carolina State and Duke will represent the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Big 12 will be represented by Iowa State, Kansas and Kansas State, while Arizona, Arizona State, California and Washington will represent the Pac 12. IN THE RANKINGS
The men’s cross country team is ranked in the USTFCCCA week two Regional rankings. The Hawkeyes are ranked seventh in the Midwest Region. This Saturday the Hawkeyes will face six other teams that are ranked in the Midwest Region. Those teams include Minnesota (3), Iowa State (6), Kansas (8), Drake (9), South Dakota State (12), and North Dakota State (15). The Hawkeyes will also face nationally ranked Portland (10), North Carolina State (11) and Minnesota (24).
TWO-FOR-TWO
The men’s cross country team defeated Northern Iowa at the Iowa Invitational last weekend. It was the Hawkeyes’ second dual meet victory in as many weeks. The Hawkeyes opened the season with a victory over Illinois State (18-39) at the Iowa Open on Sept. 2.
LEWIS MAKES AN IMPACT
Iowa freshman Kevin Lewis won the Iowa Invitational with a time of 25:31.70. Lewis’ victory ended Jeff Thode’s streak of eight consecutive meets as Iowa’s top finisher. Thode did not compete at the Iowa Invitational, so his personal streak of eight straight meets as Iowa’s top finisher will continue Oct. 14 at the Panorama Farms Invite. Thode will not compete this weekend.
UP NEXT
The Hawkeyes will head to Charlottesville, Va., to compete in the Panorama Farms Invitational on Friday, Oct. 14.
