Hawkeyes Sweep National Swimmer of the Week Honors

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa swimmers Becky Stoughton and Paul Gordon were selected as the Division I National Swimmers of the Week by collegeswimming.com, it was announced Tuesday morning.

Stoughton, a freshman from Peoria, Ill., set pool records in all three events in which she swam on Nov. 4 in the dual meet against Minnesota. She won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 9:39.44, the 500-yard free in 4:47.18 and the 400-IM in 4:17.60. The 500-free and 400-IM times were both NCAA “B” qualifiers.

Gordon, a senior from Sioux Falls, S.D., earned the male swimmer of the week recognition with his performance in the dual meet victory over Minnesota. He posted NCAA “B” qualifying times in the 100-fly (48.30), 100-free (44.07) and 200-free (1:37.44) before anchoring the winning 400-free relay. The relay win sealed Iowa’s first victory over the Golden Gophers since 1997.

The Hawkeyes return to action Nov. 18, hosting Purdue and Ohio State at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Pool.
