FREEPORT, Bahamas — The University of Iowa women’s basketball team left behind temperatures in the 40’s Tuesday for sun and 80 degree warmth in the Bahamas.

The team left in two separate travel parties from O’Hare International Airport Tuesday morning around 6:30 a.m. The players and a few staff members flew from Chicago to Fort Lauderdale, while the rest of the travel party connected in Miami to Freeport. The second travel party had no delays, but the players were delayed over two hours in Fort Lauderdale.

The second travel party was greeted by a familiar face at the Freeport Airport. Basketball Travelers, who organizes the Junkanoo Jam Tournament this week, also organizes all of Iowa’s foreign tours. One of the tour guides who took Iowa to Italy eight years ago met the team bus at the airport.

Tuesday’s itinerary is mostly down time for the team to explore the resort and enjoy the beach. The team will practice early Wednesday morning before a beach party that includes wave runners and kayaks. The entire travel party will then depart for a snorkeling excursion.
