Hagan Named Missouri Valley Male Player of the Year

IOWA CITY –University of Iowa men’s tennis teams’ Matt Hagan was named the USTA Missouri Valley Male Player of the Year at the annual sectional meeting. The Missouri Valley section includes Oklahoma, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa.

“This is really a great honor for Matt, as the Missouri Valley includes some of the top players in the nation,” said head coach Steve Houghton. “Matt has already established himself as one of the strongest players on our team.”

Hagan, a 6-6 freshman from of Omaha, Neb., finished the fall season with a 9-2 mark in doubles play and a 5-1 record in singles. He held the highest winning percentage on the team in doubles and tied for the highest mark in singles.

Hagan was crowned the Big Ten Indoor doubles Flight B champion with teammate Jonas Dierckx in Iowa’s final tournament of the year. He also won a singles flight title at the Drake Invitational after winning three straight matches at the tournament.

Hagan and Iowa will begin the spring season with the ITA Kickoff Classic on Jan. 28th at Williamsburg, VA.
