Dec. 19, 2011

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Junior Morgan Johnson has been named Big Ten Player of the Week after a career night at Bradley last Saturday.

Johnson notched new career highs in points (37), field goals made (13), free throws made (11) and free throws attempted (12). Her 37 points were also a Renaissance Coliseum record and are the most scored by any player in the Big Ten this season

Johnson’s 37 points were the most for an Iowa center since Megan Skouby netted 33 at Kansas in 2008. Skouby finished the game 10-17 from the field and 13-14 from the free throw line.

The award was Johnson’s first Big Ten Player of the Week honor. She was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week once during her first season at Iowa.

Johnson and the Hawkeyes return to action Tuesday night against Drake at 7 p.m. on Mediacom Court inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
