IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa freshman Becky Stoughton was named the Big Ten Freshman Swimmer of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. It is her first Freshman of the Week honor and second weekly award of her career.
Stoughton earned the honor after recording first place finishes in the 1,000 free (9:59.43) and 500 free (4:55.32 Jan. 6 in a multiple dual meet against Arizona, Northern Arizona, New Mexico State and Oregon State. Her first places marked Iowa’s only victories at the competition.
Stoughton’s last career honor was Nov. 8 when she was named Big Ten Swimmer of the Week.
Iowa returns home Jan. 14, hosting a dual meet against Illinois at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Pool beginning at 11 a.m.
