IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa guard Samantha Logic has been named co-Big Ten Player and Big Ten Freshman of the Week for her efforts in Iowa’s two victories last week. The announcement was made today by the Big Ten office.
Logic averaged a double-double with 18.5 points and 11 rebounds in the Hawkeyes’ two wins last week. She shot a blistering 65 percent from the field (13-of-20) and 90 percent (9-of-10) from the free throw line. The Racine, Wis., native also added 4.5 assists per contest.
Logic started the week just one rebound shy of a double-double, finishing with 20 points (7-of-10 FGs, 5-of-6 FTs), nine rebounds and six assists in a win over Minnesota. She collected her third career double-double in Iowa’s win over Michigan State, finishing with 17 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. Logic also had three assists, shot 6-of-10 from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 from the charity stripe.
Logic now has 99 assists this season, which ties Jaime Printy’s freshman assist record at Iowa.
This is the first weekly award for Logic, sharing Big Ten Player of the Week honors with Illinois’ Karisma Penn. Morgan Johnson was named Big Ten Player of the Week earlier this season (Dec. 19). Printy was Iowa’s last Big Ten Freshman of the Week (Feb. 15, 2010).
Logic and the Hawkeyes return to action Thursday at Michigan. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. (CT), and the game will be televised live by BTN.
