IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa men’s swimming and diving team set a school record in the 200 medley relay in the first session of the 2012 Big Ten Swimming and Diving Championships.
Iowa’s 200 medley relay, consisting of Dustin Rhoads, Korey Schneider, Paul Gordon and Ryan Phelan set a new school record in the event with a time of 1:27.16. The previous record was set at the 2011 Big Ten Championships by Rhoads, Sean Hagan, Gordon and Phelan (1:28.45). The relay placed seventh overall.
Gordon, Duncan Partridge, Patrick Weigand and Jordan Huff posted a seventh place finish in the 800 free relay. The squad posted a time of 6:28.59, which ranks third overall in school history . Iowa currently sits in eighth place in the team standings with 48 points. Michigan has the team lead with 80 points, followed by Ohio State (66) and Indiana (60) in second and third.
The Championships resume with preliminaries on Thursday morning beginning at 11 a.m. Thursday’s finals will follow at 6:30 p.m.
