IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa seniors Troy Doris and Erik Sowinski earned first team All-Big Ten honors following their performances at the 2012 Big Ten Indoor Championships last week. The Big Ten announced the all-conference honors Tuesday.
Doris, a native of Bolingbrook, Ill., won the triple jump title with a leap of 52-1 ¾ (15.89m). It marked the third straight season Doris won the event. He also captured first team honors at the 2011 indoor and outdoor conference championships.
Sowinski, a native of Waukesha, Wis., won the 800 meter title with a time of 1:47.90. His time of 1:47.62 in the preliminary round broke his previous school record and set a Big Ten Championships record. The first team All-Big Ten honor is the second of Sowinski’s career. He previously earned the award in 2011 as a member of the 1,600-meter relay.
Both Sowinski and Doris were both indoor All-Americans in 2011.
