Hawkeyes Tally Five Personal Best Finishes

STANFORD, Calif. – The University of Iowa track and field team rallied behind three athletes that earned their way into Iowa’s top-ten all-time performers list in day one of the Stanford Invitational Friday.

The Hawkeyes recorded a host of personal best finishes in the 5,000 meters. McKenzie Melander finished second in section two of the event. The senior recorded a personal best time of 15:57.13. That time ranks second all-time at Iowa. Graduate Student Mareike Schrulle crossed the line in 16:13.73 to finish 12th in the second section. Schrulle’s personal best time ranks sixth all-time at Iowa. Junior Megan Ranegar recorded a second place finish in the fourth section of the event. Ranegar ran a personal best time of 16:33.12. That time ranks 10th all-time at Iowa.

Junior Nick Holmes competed in the 5,000 meters for the Hawkeye men. Holmes finished with a personal best time of 14:29.77.

Senior Jackie Laesch ran to a second place finish in section seven of the 1,500 meters. Laesch recorded a personal best time of 4:36.97.

Senior Danielle Berndt and junior Kelsey Hart competed in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Berndt ran in section two of the event where she finished 16th with a time of 10:39.29. Hart crossed the line in 11:04.80 to finish 16th in the third section of the event.

Jeff Thode clocked a time of 3:48.37 in the 1,500 meters. Thode’s time earned him a fourth place finish in the third section of the event.

The remainder of the Hawkeye track and field team will return to action Saturday in Baton Rouge, La. for the Battle on the Bayou. Action is set to begin at 10 a.m.
