April 18, 2012

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa senior Chris Brant has been named Big Ten Golfer of the Week for his efforts at the Hawkeye-Great River Entertainment Invitational last weekend. This is Brant’s first Big Ten Golfer of the Week honor, and the second for a Hawkeye student athlete this season (Steven Ihm, Oct. 26).

Brant led Iowa to the Hawkeye-Great River Entertainment Invitational team title, finishing runner-up with the third-best 54-hole total in school history at 208 (-8). Brant’s second round 66 (-6) is the fourth-best 18-hole total in the Iowa record books and his 36-hole mark of 135 (-9) is the second-lowest score in school history.

Iowa’s winning score of 840 (-24) was a Hawkeye Invitational 54-hole record and the third-lowest mark in Iowa men’s golf history.

Earlier in the week, Brant was named one of five finalists for the Byron Nelson Award, given to a graduating senior based on his collegiate academic and golf career, character and integrity while in college.

Brant and the Hawkeye return to action Saturday at the Boilermaker Invitational on the campus of Purdue University.
