Iowa Adds Ihm to Recruiting Class

IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa head women’s golf coach Megan Menzel announced Thursday that Amy Ihm of Peosta, Iowa, will join the Hawkeyes in the fall of 2012.

“We are very excited to have Amy join our team next year,” said Menzel. “Amy has been a very successful high school athlete and has excelled in several sports. Amy will bring a great attitude and work ethic to our program. I believe she has the tools necessary to be successful at the collegiate level.”

Ihm preps at Dubuque Wahlert (Iowa), where she has been a two-time first team all-state selection. She led Wahlert to a third place finish at the Iowa State Tournament in 2011 as a junior and a fourth place showing in 2010 as a sophomore.

Ihm medaled in four meets during her junior year en route to being named Mississippi Valley Conference Athlete of the Year, and she won two meets as a sophomore. Ihm finished eighth at the Iowa State Tournament as a sophomore and junior, earning first team all-tournament honors on both occasions. She also finished third at the Regional Tournament and was the district runner-up as a sophomore and junior. Ihm was a second-team all-state selection and a first team all-conference selection as a freshman.

Ihm is currently competing for Wahlert as a senior, where she also exceled in volleyball and basketball. She was a two-time first team all-conference honoree as an outside hitter on the volleyball team, and an honorable mention all-conference selection twice in basketball.

Ihm is the sister of current Hawkeye men’s golfer Steven Ihm. Steven, currently a sophomore, was a second team All-Big Ten selection in his first year at Iowa after transferring from Indian Hills Community College. The Ihm’s father, Jim, played golf collegiately at the University of Eau Claire, while their older sister, Ashley Johnson, competed in golf at Clarke University.

Ihm is the second recruit to commit to join the Hawkeyes for the 2012-13 season, joining Brianna Midkiff of Carmel, Ill.
