IOWA CITY, Iowa – Fans of the Iowa Hawkeyes and friends of the University of Iowa who call central Iowa home soon won’t have to travel to Iowa City to purchase the latest black and gold gear.
Herky’s Locker Room, the official team store of the Iowa Hawkeyes, will open its second location in the state of Iowa Friday when the doors to the new Herky’s Locker Room inside Valley West Mall in West Des Moines open at 10 a.m.

The Herky’s Locker Room located in Valley West Mall will be roughly half the size of Herky’s home base,” the Herky’s Locker Room location on U.S. Highway 6 in Coralville just minutes from the UI campus. This new mall location will offer approximately 1,000 different pieces of black and gold merchandise inside a retail footprint of approximately 2,100 square feet. The offerings will range from lip balm and lanyards, to officially licensed t-shirts, jerseys, and hats.
“Thousands of fans of the Hawkeyes call the greater central Iowa home. This new location for Herky’s Locker Room will make it very convenient for these friends of the UI to show their black and gold pride,” said Gary Barta, the UI’s director of athletics.

As with all purchases made at Herky’s Locker Room – whether that be in a brick-and-mortar store like those in Coralville and, beginning Friday, in West Des Moines or online at herkyslockerroom.com – purchases help support the intercollegiate athletics programs at the University of Iowa.
The Herky’s Locker Room walk-in retail store at Valley West Mall is located at 1551 Valley West Drive in West Des Moines. The store will be open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
A grand opening celebration will be staged Friday beginning at 10 a.m. Giveaways and free gifts with purchases will be available while supplies last. Herky, the official mascot of the Iowa Hawkeyes, will also participate in ribbon cutting.
